FIFA 08 review by soccernet.com
For over a decade, FIFA and Pro Evolution soccer have been in competition with each other, creating a monopoly in the football game industry with their impressive games. This year, FIFA 08 has pulled out all the stops in a bid to get one over on its rival, but will it succeed?
Firstly, the game has cured one of the most annoying traits of football games in recent years - an inability to control the player you want to control. It has done this by allowing the user to scroll through the nearest available players with a quick flick of the right analogue stick (on PS2) and yet still have the option of picking the closest one (L1) if need be.
Now, when your defenders are tracking back to stop a one-on-one, you can actually pick the right player to come across and cover, instead of having a number of them decide to go wandering off at the crucial moment.
A massive improvement, and something that has been complimented with the fact that you can now take control of the goalkeeper as well. However, it is a tricky skill to master and relying on the computer to pull off the saves may still the best way to go unless you want to be hammered 10-0; but in one-on-one situations you can now make saves instead of just running aimlessly out of your box.
Having found FIFA 07 especially annoying because of the AI goalkeepers' inability to come out further than their six-yard box, this is a much needed feature. Still though, when playing against the AI, they stay rooted to the spot and make it embarrassingly easy to score.
Shooting has been improved, tackling makes it easier to get the ball and there has still been no effort made to address the fact that free-kicks could be scored by the horrifically over-rated Roberto Carlos, let alone the likes of David Beckham, because the wall begins in the wrong place.
That said, new features are important if a game is to be improved and FIFA 08 has them in abundance. The best by far is the 'Be A Pro' feature, which allows you to get into the boots of a single player within a team and build your career from scratch. Some users may not enjoy the attention to detail required to coax a single player through 90 minutes, and will certainly be annoyed at some of the AI's decisions, but then that's football.
The closest thing to real football, 'Be A Pro' is a unique invention and is impressive. Even though you're not the centre of attention you can still control your team-mates' actions to a point, by 'calling' for the ball. More often than not they'll try and pass it to you, but your overall control over the match is limited - just like real life.
Furthermore, there is an opportunity to build your tricks and skills into a combination to recreate real-world stars' moves. Pretty good when you add that to the fact that the AI now has over 60,000 options every minute, meaning that the gameplay is far more varied than previous versions. You'll need every one of those tricks just to keep the opposition guessing.
As ever, the look and feel of the game is superb. Including great graphics, intricate detail (including some of the best stadium animations ever) and some cool music as well. Little additions, such as the fact there is now a PA announcer reading out a scorer's name, and the stats in the pre-match build up read out by Martin Tyler, add to the features of the game. It's often the little things that count.
New leagues, including the Australian A-League, make FIFA 08 the most complete game around and it certainly remains top of the pile for kits, equipment and the all important team and player names.
Online leagues, enhanced interactivity and the opportunity to download weekly podcasts also improve the range of content on offer (as if playing the game itself wasn't enough) and with the slickness that has made EA's FIFA game a household name over recent years still evident, FIFA 08 is an impressive beast. Boasting some great visuals, it may fall down a little on gameplay when compared to that of its rival, but that gap is closing fast.

FIFA 08 - First Look
June 1, 2007 - Joe Booth has a dream. The FIFA 08 next-gen producer imagines an EA virtual world cup, online, 11 on 11, featuring the best videogame soccer players on the planet. Coinciding with the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, each gamer will grab a player and, with 10 friends, begin a soccer assault on the rest of the planet. Right now it's just a dream, a goal for the future of FIFA online, but it all starts with Be a Pro in FIFA 08.We sat down with Booth and his team at EA Canada to get our first look at FIFA 08 and the new Be a Pro mode. Booth, a native of England, was decked out in his finest Leeds United jersey and made an exciting announcement: FIFA 08 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will feature 30 leagues, 620 teams and about 15,000 players. Not only is that a record for FIFA -- Booth worked on the excellent FIFA 07 on current gen that featured only a whopping 27 leagues -- but that's more teams than every other EA Sports title combined. In short, Leeds United is back. But what about EA's soccer franchise?

Well, let's say you want to take control of Leeds striker David Healy. And by take control, we mean complete control. In the new Be a Pro mode, you select any player from a squad and control him the entire match in what is almost like a third-person soccer game. The new camera system will zoom in and out to continually frame your player, the ball and the goal. If Healy is zipping up the field on a breakaway, the camera will zoom in and shake, just like the Gears of War embedded journalist cam. As you play, you'll receiver a number of visual prompts to indicate if you are out of position, where you should run to into space, if you're offside. And even if you're not playing with a game-changing superstar like Ronaldinho, you are still rewarded by how well you play your position. Of course, if you're simply bored, you can pause the game and switch to a more exciting player at any time. The most popular position at EA so far is central midfielder. It's great to score with a striker, but attacking midfielders are always in on the action and it's just as fun to create a goal with a slick pass.
Keep in mind that Be a Pro isn't like Madden's Superstar mode with a soccer ball. You aren't creating a player and following his career on the way to the FIFA hall of fame. Be a Pro is simply a new way to play on the virtual pitch -- and a nice thought since innovation in soccer games has become pretty much stagnant.Still, Be a Pro isn't a replacement for the 11-on-11 action that we have come to know and love. It's great to play as your favorite player but nothing is better than creating an amazing goal with your favorite team. So when Booth and his team took the next-gen reins, they made a long list of improvements that needed to be made. First on the list was shooting.
We got a chance to crack a few shots from distance and the difference in shooting is immediately noticeable. Long shot specialists like Steven Gerrard will finally be weapons in FIFA, thanks to a dynamic shooting meter and the FIFA physics system introduced in 07. When you're in perfect position, the power meter will slowly increase as you hold the shot button. When you let go, you'll rip a powerful shot that has a great chance of being on goal (rather than on the lap of a player's wife in the seventh row). Shots will become more difficult to hit based on a number of conditions. Has the ball just bounced? Is it rolling toward or away from the player? How fast is the player running? Is it his off foot? Not only will this increase the speed of the shot meter, but the ball will also take some wild trajectories depending on just how far off center your shot is. Moral of the story? Work for a good shot. Thankfully, you'll have some extra tools at your disposal to do so.
When you hit the slow-pace button, you will now have an arsenal of skill moves available. Cristiano Ronaldo will dazzle you with step-overs. Ronaldinho will embarrass you with the flip flap. Watch out for feints, spins and the rainbow. All of these will be accessible on the right stick while running at slow pace. At regular speed, the knock-the-ball-into-space move mapped to the right stick will return, which we don't like because it doesn't work.Visually, FIFA 08 will run at 60 frames per second and it also utilizes a fancy animation system similar to what you've seen in Madden 08 and NBA Street Homecourt. Basically, animations blend smoothly together so you can run in and out of motions without being trapped in one animation. It's still very early and EA has yet to tack on that extra visual polish, but the build we saw looked very similar to FIFA 07.
In terms of modes, EA is holding off details on Manager Mode and online for now, although we have one delicious nugget for you. Interactive Leagues will make their 360 and PS3 debut. Pick your favorite team. When it plays, you play. EA will tally all the wins and losses and declare a winner. EA also hinted at traditional online leagues with your buddies, but we'll have to wait and see. Until then, be sure to check out our interview with Ronaldinho on location at a motion-capture session in Barcelona. We've also got an exclusive photo gallery of international soccer stars Andreas Ivanschitz, Tranquillo Barnetta, Miroslav Klose, and Sergio Ramos. Finally, check out IGN Weekly on Friday night as we take you behind the scenes of FIFA 08 to bring you a real-time motion capture session with Ronaldinho and company. Time to lace up your boots.

All of Hamachi's settings, and your Hamachi account identity (as of version 1.x) are stored in an application data folder on your computer, not the registry. In order to ensure you do not lose your Hamachi identity, for instance, due to a system failure (computer crash), it is recommended you back up your identity.

What Ronaldinho says about FIFA07 ?

One thing's for sure, the man isn't just on the cover of FIFA, he's addicted.
IGN Sports: When you play FIFA 07 or Champions League, do you choose playing with Ronaldinho in F.C. Barcelona or do you prefer playing with another team?
Ronaldinho: It depends. I do change teams a lot. I like to try playing sometimes with other teams from around the world but I also like playing with F.C. Barcelona.
IGN Sports: Do you like how you look like in the videogames? Do you think that the digital Ronaldinho is similar to you?
Ronaldinho: I think they've matched me very well. It's very close to reality. Really, I'm very happy about how close to real life the virtual Ronaldinho is. It seems like each year EA gets better and better at making players look and play like the real person.
IGN Sports: How do you compare the real Ronaldinho with the virtual one? Do you think that the movements and the passes are similar?
Ronaldinho: They're very close to reality. I think that's why it's so much fun to play. The passes, tricks and the way of running are very real. It's really all very realistic and motivates you to keep playing the game.
IGN Sports: When you play FIFA 07, do you think it is real? What is the difference between playing the videogame or real football?
Ronaldinho: The game is really close to reality. I often play the game choosing different stadiums and find that the depiction of them, the teams and the individual players are matched very well to real life. It all looks great together. Perhaps you can't make a direct comparison but it's great fun to play it - simply very realistic.
IGN Sports: Do you think that young football players can learn playing FIFA 07 or Champions League? What can they learn from the videogame?
Ronaldinho: As it is so close to reality, young football players can learn quite a lot of things from it. I think playing the videogame motivates you to play real football and it is because it's so realistic. For younger players they can learn strategy and spacing from the videogame.
IGN Sports: Can you test new tactics, passes, juggling, while you are playing FIFA 07?
Ronaldinho: Ahh, it has a lot of possibilities. A lot of the dribbles are easier to do in the game than in real football. In the videogame you have the possibility of improvising at any time. When I play on the field I have no time to think; playing the videogame you can repeat the play until you learn it. I usually try to repeat on the field the tactics and techniques I've practiced in FIFA 07.

[MyFeS] vs [W|nDs] clan war!
Over to Malaysia,in a very different ball of game..the two most active FIFA clans in Malaysia(WinDs and MyFeS) are about to clash in the very first clan war between these two clans,on the 10th March 2007 at Quicknet,Cheras. With the great players like Winds Loon4tic,Winds Vin and Winds Accelerator7, Winds clan look certainly to tame the MyFeS clan easily..Plus with the rumours saying that three WInds members from singapore will be coming down as well for the clan war,it surely strengthen even more the Winds clan ahed of this clan war. However, the young side of the MyFeS clan surely would not give up that easy. With the victory of MyFeS Solidsnake in the last year CelGames,MyFeS believe they can give Winds a good fight in this upcoming clan war. With Solidsnake unable to join this coming clan war, the MyFeS clan have no other choice but to depends on their young guns like zietoo, killer, sildes and their newly joined member warrior!
With this clan war, surely it will embark the start of another great year in Malaysia FIFA scene! To all the Winds and MyFeS members, lets give all out in the coming clan war! gg Guys!
